Here at Yee Group we have been installing EV chargers for clients for the last seven years. Throughout this time we have also offered a charging station to our own employees and customers at our headquarters in Burton on Trent. We are proud that over the last seven years we have helped companies pursue their sustainability commitments and through their installations of EV chargers, have remove thousands of tonnes of CO2 from their activities.
Where it once seemed like businesses were dipping their toe in the EV charging scene – now the technology is commonplace at workplaces and homes across the country. Not only is EV charging very common, but among our clients at least; it is expanding and changing quickly. In our experience businesses are now upgrading their charging infrastructure and future proofing their EV equipment to suit both increasing demand and the need for flexibility in back-office fleet management systems. We have installed everything from simple plug and charge, to pay-to-charge systems via smartphone, RFID cards and key fobs.
Project Outline
With so much demand from client’s we decided to review our own network of chargers, especially since the company has expanded since installing our early EV chargers. We concluded that it was time to overhaul and extend the charging stations across all our sites.
Like many companies, Yee Group is experiencing demand from employees to charge their private vehicles at work, as more and more people opt for electric for their private cars. The company is also replacing their fleet with electric vehicles at every opportunity. This means that at all sites there is more demand for electric vehicle charging, despite the number of parking spaces remaining the same.
The Solution
Yee Group electricians replaced the existing single 7 kW charger with a twin 11 kW charger at their HQ in Burton on Trent. Twin chargers only require one electrical supply, and they allow two vehicles to receive a fast charge at the same time.
Jason Cooper, Group General Manager said, “They are often more economical to install than two single chargers as they only require one electrical supply and the mounting of one unit and isolator which reduces installation time and costs. This also makes them a great option for upgrades too.”
Installing EV chargers at the company’s Shrewsbury business Cool Services presented a more demanding brief as the parking spaces are not in a protected car park and could be considered more vulnerable to vandalism. The model chosen for this installation was the ROLEC Securicharge EV. It is a heavy-duty unit with the benefit of a key switch which means the whole unit is mechanically locked until it is required for use. It also offers fast charging for two vehicles at the same time.
Yee Group has a long history of working with ROLEC equipment and chose it for their own installations because it is reliable and durable. The manufacturer’s equipment is British made and offers a 3-year warranty. ROLEC is a renowned innovator and Yee Group prides itself on working with the best equipment manufacturers around, for all the services it offers. High quality equipment from reliable suppliers helps Yee Group provide clients with the most advanced technologies that will bring tangible cost saving and energy reducing benefits to their business.
ROLEC’s range of EV chargepoints, is approved by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), allowing workplaces to take advantage of the Government’s EV charging infrastructure grants. What is most beneficial about the grant, is that it allows businesses to plan for the future by creating infrastructure now that will enable chargepoints to be installed later on. Helping clients secure funding is all part of the service offered by Yee Group. As is; painting the parking bays to demarcate the areas for charging.
Benefits
By offering workplace EV charging, Yee Group and Cool Services have engrained a sustainable brand reputation in the minds of their customers and employees. It has also worked as an incentive to employees to make the switch to electric vehicles. With the recent rise in fuel prices, switching vehicles has become and attractive option.
