Located in the idyllic Staffordshire countryside, Sheepwash Farm Day Nursery is a new facility that opened its doors in November 2020. Not only is the nursery focussed on providing a rich and varied environment that will stimulate the children’s curiosity and promote learning, but the building itself has been purpose-built with every detail carefully specified to provide the best possible environment for early years education.
Utilising 100% green energy, the nursery has been designed with sustainability in mind. The team took the decision to install 4 electric vehicle charging points to help reduce carbon emissions associated with car journeys to and from the nursery. Nursery manager Charmaine Eagles said “ Not only are we passionate about early years learning but also our impact on the environment. We wanted to ensure that we are as sustainable as possible and what better way to demonstrate our commitment to a low carbon operation, than to install electric vehicle charging points from day one”
Which Charge Point?
With so many costs incurred during the build and start-up of the new business it was important to ensure that the electric vehicle charging points chosen were OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) approved and therefore eligible for a grant toward the cost of the installation. On top of that requirement, they had to be robust, reliable and flexible enough to cater for the widest range of EV charging situations. The nursery also wanted the equipment to be manufactured in the UK and offer warranty support.
Rolec twin pedestal 32A units were chosen for the nursery, because they provide a quick charge and allow two vehicles to be charged at the same time. Payment to charge can be made via an App (EV Charge On-line). Rolec has been a world-leading specialist in the design and manufacture of outdoor electrical equipment, for more than thirty years. Their electric vehicle charging points and equipment are installed in businesses and homes across the UK.
Which installer?
The choice of charging point installer was another easy decision. Yee Group of Burton on Trent have designed and installed the electrical and fire safety systems for the nursery building and so were already providing installation services.
Not only are Yee Group Rolec approved installers, but they are authorised to install electric vehicle charging points under the Government’s Electric Vehicle Workplace Charging Scheme (EVHS), which means that for approved systems, we can also help our clients make applications and obtain grant funding.
The company have been providing EV charging services to clients across Staffordshire for several years and take on responsibility for the grant application so that their clients get the benefit of the funding without completing the paperwork.
Benefits
The installation and commissioning of EV charging points ran smoothly and customers, staff and visitors have been delighted to learn of the charging facility and have provided positive feedback.
